Art Inspired by Science and Technology because Art Inspires Science and Technology

Wilson McCord's artworks are inspired by Science and Technology. He began drawing at the age of five and never stopped. At the age of ten Wilson's artwork was first shown in a juried show at the Hudson River Museum in Tarrytown, New York, whose collection includes George Seagal, Dan Flavin and Red Grooms. After studying design and art and completing a masters in anthropology he began to make numerous works of art. In Basel, Switzerland he met and received private funding from the Art Collector Ernst Beyeler and Galeriests Daniel Blaise Thorens and Rita Thorens. His early mixed media and works on paper were first exhibited on Martha's Vineyard and a hand painted silver gelatin print was collected by the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society Museum in 1995. His work has been included in New York group shows at the Grey Galleries and; Sex and Industry; curated by John Yau at the Stefan Stux Gallery in Chelsea which included artists like Cindy Sherman, John Baldessari, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol and more. From November 2007 until May 2008 an exhibition of Wilson McCord's work, with selections from 1999 to 2007 was held at Art Center Berlin in Germany, (at that time) Berlin's largest forum and cultural center for international contemporary art. Small works by Mr. McCord were exhibited in the Center's Salon which also showed works by Marcus Lupertz, Janis Kounellis and Arman. Other main Exhibition Spaces at the time of his exhibition showed Chinese Contemporary Art and Aboriginal Art of Australia with works by Long Jack Phillipus and other protagonists of the indigenous art scene. Exhibitions in the past have included the traveling exhibition Leonardo Da Vinci: Projects, Drawings and Machines. Wilson has studied and worked with, as well as been mentored by, some of the world's most important contemporary and modern masters of art including: Roy DeCarava, Ron Gorchov, Hope Wurmfeld and was studio assistant to Bernar Venet. He has also been archivist to an important international artist. Most importantly for seventeen years Mr. McCord was friends with and mentored by the great sculptor Louise Bourgeois.
